If that book was another book we wouldn’t be hearing anything about being disrespectful. If someone wants to do something with a book, LET THEM DO SOMETHING WITH A BOOK.

I burned a bible once

It’s a book. I may think it’s probably one of the most prolific books on the planet as well. If we were to burn the bibles in a furnace, we could power cities, make it so we have ways to get to work, so people can heal in hospitals, so kids can be healthy, so animals don’t get sick or starve, and you know what? It’s a BOOK. The issue you have here is you’re thinking that someone is treating a book like they might treat the idea.

Can you burn a bible and call it self-preservation, yet still be a Christian? What if you’re trapped in a church, all they have are Bibles, and the only way to not die is start a fire using the Bibles? Hmm?

Sufficed to say, extending a love or hatred of a religious order or divine providence to a textual replica of that idea is synonymous to having one idol that one would worship before one’s god. Worship the living legend you believe in, not a collective sheaf of papers that originated from a printing press centuries ago. The idea is what is important, not a damned piece of worked tree and carbon.

*Technically, God (or other religious figure) doesn’t care what you do with your life, or pieces of matter in it, there is some sense of free-will out there, and if someone’s been smited from the almighty lord for using a bible as a pizza plate, I’d like to know.

*Also, I don’t think they care. It’s a damned book, not a damned religious relic that was from the 4th century. Now put a piece of pizza on a piece of the true cross and burn the pizza? Might be blasphemy. *chuckles*

They were also completely disrespected by US customs officials and detained in complete isolation for several hours, where they was treated like dirt and told they was going to be deported back to Palestine. He even showed them the invitation to the ceremony, but they didn’t believe him. Eventually he contacted Michael Moore, who got help and got him released. Read about it.

I just wanted to note that as a reminder that even people nominated for Oscars get treated that way. Unsurprising, unfortunately, and utterly disgusting.
